The service

Kanji Buddy is an app for learning Japanese kanji and kana. Pricing, availability, and feature details may change as the app develops.

Accounts and backup

Signing in and backing up your progress are optional features of the app. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. We back up what you ask us to back up on a best-effort basis and don't guarantee it will always be available, uninterrupted, or retained indefinitely; your locally stored progress is unaffected either way. We may suspend or terminate an account we reasonably believe is being used to abuse the service.

Acceptable use

Use the app lawfully. Do not interfere with its operation or attempt unauthorized access to another user's account or data. Any use of third-party licensed material, including the open source software the app is built with and the dictionary data it studies from, remains subject to its own applicable licence.

Intellectual property

Our original app design, code, and branding belong to NAMI BYTE S.R.L. Third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners. Kanji and vocabulary definitions are derived from the JMdict and KANJIDIC2 dictionary files, maintained by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG) and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. Stroke order diagrams are derived from KanjiVG, created by Ulrich Apel and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0, available at kanjivg.tagaini.net.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is" to the extent permitted by applicable law. We don't guarantee it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the app or applicable law. We will publish revised terms here and update the date above. Changes do not retrospectively alter rights or obligations that arose before the change.
