This website

This website does not use analytics, cookies, or tracking scripts. Your light or dark theme preference is saved locally in your browser and never sent anywhere. If you join the waitlist, we store the email address you provide in Firestore, a database service provided by Google, so we can notify you when Kanji Buddy launches. We don't use that email for anything else, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by contacting us.

The Kanji Buddy app

No account is required to use Kanji Buddy. Your learning progress, custom character sets, and settings are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to a server we control.

To understand how the app is used and to catch and fix crashes, Kanji Buddy uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, services provided by Google. These may collect device information, app usage events, and crash reports. We do not receive your name, email address, or anything else that directly identifies you through these services. Firebase's own privacy practices are described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Data retention and your choices

Because progress data lives on your device, deleting the app deletes that data. Analytics and crash data are retained by Firebase according to Google's own retention settings. Most devices let you limit ad and analytics tracking at the system level, and those settings apply here too.

Children's privacy

Kanji Buddy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kanji Buddy develops. We'll update the date at the top of this page whenever we do.
