Privacy Policy

Last updated October 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how NAMI BYTE S.R.L. ("we", "us", "our") handles personal data in the Kanji Buddy app.

Who is responsible for your data

Kanji Buddy is operated by NAMI BYTE S.R.L., a company registered in Romania and the data controller responsible for the processing of personal data described in this policy. Our registered office is at Str. Pavel Roșca nr. 4, ap. 28, Cluj-Napoca, Cluj, Romania.

For privacy questions or requests concerning your personal data, contact contact@kanjibuddy.app. Our registration details are available in the Company information section of our Terms of Service.

The Kanji Buddy app

Your kanji, kana, and vocabulary study progress is stored locally on your device and never leaves it unless you choose to back it up (see "Account and backup" below). The dictionary and stroke-order data the app studies from come from third-party sources described on the app's Data Sources screen, which are not personal data.

Account and backup

Signing in and backing up your progress are optional. If you sign in with Google or Apple, Firebase Authentication creates an account using the basic profile information that sign-in method shares with us, so the app can recognize you across devices. If you then back up, your study progress - the same kanji, kana, and vocabulary data described above, plus any mnemonics you've written - is uploaded to Google Firebase (Firestore) under that account, so you can restore it on another device or after reinstalling. Signing out stops the app recognizing you on that device, but does not delete an existing backup; to delete a backup or close the underlying account, contact contact@kanjibuddy.app.

Analytics and crash reports

The app always collects basic crash and performance diagnostics through Firebase Crashlytics, to help us fix what's broken; this does not include your study content. Usage analytics - which features get used and how often - are tied to a random ID for your installation, not your name or account, and are off by default where the law requires your opt-in first (the EU, the EEA, and the UK); everywhere else they default on. Either way, you can turn them on or off anytime in Settings.

Your rights

You can delete all locally stored study data at any time by uninstalling the app. For a backed-up account, or for any other request about your personal data - including access, correction, or deletion - contact contact@kanjibuddy.app. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children's privacy

The Kanji Buddy app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kanji Buddy develops. We will update the date at the top of this page whenever we do.
